We are delighted to have this superb double bass by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi with us for sale. The condition is amazing for a bass from 1770 and it's as well made as a Landolfi violin. The sound is powerful and focused.
Landolfi is considered one of the five finest Italian makers who ever lived. He apprenticed in Cremona and is the last one to follow the great Cremonese tradition of the golden period. In his 30’s Landolfi moved and set up shop in Milan where he stayed until his death. This bass was the constant companion of former New York Philharmonic principal and legend John A. Schaeffer. It comes with a dendrochronology, our certificate and the certificate of Florian Leonhart.
