This exceptional double bass by Joan Guillami has a rich provenance. It is in excellent condition and originality and bears the genuine label of this outstanding Barcelona maker dated 1767. Made in the traditional Catalan model the sound is enormous and rich in quality.
The Instrument was for over 100 years in the Torello needs slash on the last o family. The instrument was used by the Catalan virtuoso Antoni Torello and came to the US with him in 1909. He used it for many solo and chamber appearances throughout his career. Torello was the Priincipal bass with the Philaddelphia for about 40 years. The bass was sold by his son Bill (a bassist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra) to the eminent virtuoso Gary Karr who had it converted to four strings and used it for many years as his solo instrument in Europe. Recently, the bass has been used by Thomas Martin.
