This handsome French bass was made by Jerome Thibouville- Lamy and bears both the Paris and London labels as they maintained shops in both cities. The Thibouville-Lamy firm was one of the largest instrument making firms in France maintaining a standard of very high quality. The condition is astounding for an instrument of the 1890’s – as original as we have ever seen. Tonally it is fine as well and would serve the classical or jazz oriented musician equally. I has been in the hands of a top bassist who has recently retired. From the violin-maker’s perspective it is also excellent with impressive arching of both the from and back plates.
